Stairs

General notes

Stairs are the part of 3D Model. The program generates 3D flights of stair (separate files in folder Stairs of current project) and then inserts flights in 3D model of entire structure. There are no restrictions in number of stairs used in project, as well as each stair can contain any number of flights. Your project can be just stairs (without structural members) or structural + stairs or just structural.

Getting started

Before you start stair’s input you should have grid nodes and levels in database. Play video: http://www.nyacad.com/DownloadFull/StairsInput2.exe

Main Stairs Form

All operations in development of stairs can be performed from Stairs Main Form (press the button Stairs in Main Form of SolidStructural):

Stairs Input

To add stairs in database press the button Stairs Input in Stairs Main Form

In opened form enter name of stair

In the top part of the form you can setup parameters of stair such as carrier angle material, concrete thickness etc. To add new stair press Duplicate STAIR button

, give the name of new stair and assign typical parameters for stair.

To navigate between stairs use buttons at the very bottom of the form.

Select Start and End levels; enter number of Risers, select stringer material

Next step: enter stair’s working points - nodes (e.g. select A4 - press TAB - enter B4 - press TAB and so on) and types of Stair’s stringer start and end details

Remarks

Working point for stair:

-          Channel stringer: intersection of nosing line with stringer (back of channel)

-          Tubes: intersection of nosing line with center line of flange

NS-FS stringer – (see picture above): top of flight on the right, bottom – on the left

Experiment with input in order to become comfortable using this form. What can help?

How to produce elevation of stair?

Create 3D model with stairs. Click on ‘Elev. View X or Y sect.’ button in main form. Select appropriate grid line and distances and generate elevation view Look at the examples of stair drawings and 3D models produced with SolidStructural at:

How to produce stair plan?

Create 3D model with stairs. Generate plan view (use the corresponding button in SolidStructural Main form). Go to main Stairs form; press the button ‘Draw Plans’. Next you can transfer plans using Copy with base point (use 0,0 as a base point) command to plan view drawing or insert it as a block.
